Basically, this vulnerability is created because you can push BOTH pins out of the plug, meaning there's nothing obstructing the movement of the plug. The comb picks, if lined up with the pins, can push them both out of the plug and then allow you to turn it - then the lock is open.

Although there are still millions of padlocks that are open to this vulnerability, manufacturers have, thankfully, largely put a stop to this exploit, so do not expect to open high-security padlocks with comb picks. However, a lot of our customers thin their comb picks down on a bench grinder or some glass-paper to make them a thinner gauge and therefore able to fit more padlocks.
